On April 3, speaking with reporters, a representative of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district (Nghe An) said that they will hold a meeting to discuss a plan to repay the debt that has beenstanding for more than 10 years to a restaurant owner in the area.
According to the District People's Committee, the debt arose from the previous period, however, due to special mountainous conditions, the allocation of funds was difficult, so it has not been able to be paid yet.
Previously, on April 2, social networks spread a photo of the petition of Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Mui - owner of Minh Mui restaurant in Thach Giam town - to the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district to request debt payment.
In the petition, Ms. Mui said that from 2011 to 2015, the District People's Committee Office repeatedly ordered meals at her restaurant. To date, the outstanding amount is more than 44 million VND.
On August 10, 2018, Tuong Duong district compared the debt and confirmed that the District People's Committee Office still owed Ms. Mui's family the above amount. The minutes were signed by Ms. Pham Thi Hao - accountant of the District People's Committee Office. In 2019, this agency continued to issue a debt confirmation certificate.
However, since then, although Ms. Mui's family has repeatedly submitted petitions to the District People's Committee for payment, they have not received any specific response.
Tuong Duong is a mountainous district located in the southwest of Nghe An province, with a natural area of nearly 2,812km2 - the largest in the country according to district-level administrative units. This is also one of the three poor districts of the province; the district center is more than 200km from Vinh City.
