According to records at around 10:40 a.m. on April 30, the flow of vehicles moving from Hanoi to the North Central provinces was seriously congested when passing through Than Vu tunnel, a section in Nghi Dong commune, Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province. This is the time when traffic volume has increased dramatically as people return home for the April 30 - May 1 holiday.
The main reason was determined to be that Than Vu tunnel had only exploited one tunnel with two lanes, not meeting the travel needs during peak season. The congestion lasts from early morning to noon, making many drivers tired and exhausted from waiting.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chien (from Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh) said that he departed from Hanoi at 2am, but was stuck in the tunnel area for nearly 6 hours. "I was stuck there all the time, and didn't get home until 8am. Too tired because of slow and congested travel, he shared.
Mr. H.C.H., a driver traveling from Hanoi to Vinh City, warned on social media: "If you come from Hanoi, avoid the Dien Chau - Bai Vot Expressway. Now, vehicles are still congested in Than Vu tunnel, the section passing through Nghe An".
Faced with increased traffic pressure, functional forces such as Team 4, Department 6 - Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security), and the expressway management unit have urgently deployed a plan to direct traffic and regulate traffic at intersections and tunnel gate areas to relieve pressure and minimize the risk of accidents.
An officer of Road Management Area II.1 said that although there were recommendations in advance, during the holidays, the number of vehicles increased too quickly and far exceeded the forecast. "We recommend that drivers should closely monitor the traffic situation on official canals and consider using National Highway 1A as a replacement route during peak season," he emphasized.
Currently, forces are continuing to regulate in the Than Vu tunnel area and on the entire Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway to ensure safe traffic during the holiday.
