This morning, January 19, the "Bicycle and Roller Race" organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Sports Vehicle Federation took place on Mai Chi Tho Street, attracting the participation of many athletes and fans.
However, the ban on car lanes on Mai Chi Tho Street (from the front of Sala urban area to the intersection of To Huu Street) to serve the race caused traffic congestion lasting for many hours, making it difficult for people to travel through this area.
According to records from 7am on the same day, to ensure safety for the racers, the organizers banned car lanes on Mai Chi Tho Street, vehicles had to move to the mixed lane.
Although the race plan and traffic regulation and flow were announced in advance, during the entire cycling and roller racing program, Mai Chi Tho Street and its intersections were congested from morning to noon.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, a resident passing through the area, said: "It took me more than an hour to travel a distance that normally takes only 20 minutes. Organizing the event is good, but it needs to be calculated more reasonably to avoid affecting people's traffic."
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Traffic Management Center, this morning traffic on Mai Chi Tho Street was adjusted to serve a cycling race.Athletes will run into the car lane to compete. Therefore, all cars are regulated to go through the mixed lane.
The event only lasted for a certain period of time, by 11am the same day traffic was back to normal.
