Traffic congestion on central streets of Ho Chi Minh City at noon has significantly decreased, and many traffic lights allowing two-wheeled vehicles to turn right on red lights have been installed.

According to Lao Dong's records on central Ho Chi Minh City streets such as Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Le Duan, Hai Ba Trung, Nguyen Binh Khiem, Ly Tu Trong,... at noon on January 13, the traffic congestion and jams like the previous days no longer existed.

Traffic conditions on these routes are quite favorable. At intersections such as Nguyen Thi Minh Khai - Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai - Hai Ba Trung, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai - Nguyen Binh Khiem, Hai Ba Trung - Le Duan,... traffic lights have been installed to allow two-wheeled vehicles to turn right when the light is red, facilitating people's movement.

On Dien Bien Phu and Vo Thi Sau streets, the traffic volume is quite heavy but there are no traffic jams or congestions. At the same time, at some intersections on these two streets, lights have been installed to allow two-wheeled vehicles to turn right when the light is red.

Mr. Phan Van Tuan (a technology car driver) said that traffic congestion only occurs during morning rush hour, and by around 10am, the roads in the center are quite clear.

"Many intersections are equipped with lights that allow right turns on red, so moving around is much more convenient and you don't have to worry about being fined for turning," said Mr. Tuan.

However, according to Mr. Tuan, there are still some intersections that allow turns but cannot be turned because the driver in front stops at a red light, blocking the road, forcing the person behind to wait for the green light before being able to turn.

Last week, many roads in the center of Ho Chi Minh City continuously experienced traffic jams that lasted for many hours.

At the city's gateway routes such as Xo Viet Nghe Tinh, Dinh Bo Linh (Northeast gateway); Cong Hoa, Truong Chinh streets (Northwest gateway), at noon on January 13, there were many vehicles moving, with congestion at some intersections at many times.

"There is no day when this road is not congested. These days, near Tet, there are more vehicles, so the congestion is worse," said Ms. Xuan Dung, a resident on Truong Chinh Street (Tan Phu District).

On the morning of January 13, Mr. Bui Hoa An - Deputy Director of the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City, said that traffic volume from the beginning of 2025 will increase by 2.8-11.4% compared to the end of 2024, concentrated in central areas, Tan Son Nhat airport and gateways.

In particular, the central area recorded an 11.4% increase in traffic volume, while the number of traffic jams here increased by 17%.

According to Mr. Bui Hoa An, up to now, the Department of Transport has coordinated the installation of 131 sets of signal lights allowing two-wheeled vehicles to turn right on some main roads such as Vo Thi Sau, Dien Bien Phu, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai... and plans to continue installing them at other qualified intersections in the coming days.
