A positive sign on the first day of the April 30 - January 1 holiday this year, traffic accidents have decreased sharply in all three criteria.
According to the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security), the whole country recorded 37 cases, killing 18 people and injuring 22 people, a sharp decrease compared to the same period last year.
The number speaks, reflecting the effectiveness of patrol and control work and the awareness of traffic participants has changed.
But behind that bright color, there are still dark patches that need to be viewed directly. More than 2,100 cases of alcohol concentration violations handled in just one day is a number that cannot be taken lightly.
Previously, on April 26, the Giỗ Tổ holiday, there were 2,200 people riding motorbikes violating alcohol concentration.
These figures show that there are still many people who disregard the regulations and still drive after drinking alcohol.
It should be clearly affirmed that a reduction in traffic accidents does not mean a corresponding reduction in risk. Just one person driving a vehicle in a drunken state, all efforts to keep the community safe can be broken.
On holidays, the demand for entertainment, meetings, and parties increases. Alcohol and beer become "catalysts" in many meetings.
But the problem lies in the fact that many people still maintain subjective thinking, drinking less is okay, going closer is okay, or hoping to "avoid" being checked. This psychology is the seed of accidents.
Reality shows that the traffic police force is not "relaxed" during the holidays. On the contrary, alcohol concentration checks are implemented more drastically, especially on key routes and crowded areas.
Don't be delusional that holidays will be "flexible". Traffic order and safety are no exception.
Traffic police perform their duties and impose very strict penalties, but the root of safety is still the awareness of the people.
Everyone must be aware that if they have drunk alcohol, they should not drive but choose alternative vehicles.
Reality shows that many serious accidents originate from alcohol and beer. The accident perpetrator may no longer have the opportunity to correct his mistakes, but the consequences left for his family and society are long-term.
The reduction in traffic accidents during holidays is a noteworthy result, but not a reason to be subjective.
Conversely, this is the time to consolidate what has been achieved, tighten traffic discipline, especially for alcohol concentration violations.
If you have drunk alcohol, don't drive, that is not only a legal regulation, but a standard of civilized behavior, a responsibility to yourself and to the community.
