On the afternoon of September 12, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Huynh Dai (born 1992, in Quy Nhon, Gia Lai) said that at about 12:00 PM on the same day, he discovered a water cannon phenomenon in the sea area of My Duc (Phu My Bac commune), attracting the attention of many people.
Mr. Huynh Dai, who directly recorded the water cannon image, said that this is the first time he has witnessed this phenomenon appearing in the My Duc sea area.
Through the clip recorded by Mr. Huynh Dai, the phenomenon of waterspouts forming on the sea surface, extending from the convective cloud down to the water surface, forming a clear vortex. Seawater follows the vortex to be sucked up high, creating an image like a water column connected to the cloud above.
According to meteorologists, tornadoes are dangerous meteorological phenomena, often formed in conditions of strong convective clouds.

Areas with high temperatures may experience convective clouds, strong thunderstorms and localized tornadoes. When atmospheric conditions are favorable, pressure differences and vortex movements can create sea tornadoes.
According to Gia Lai Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, the phenomenon recorded by people in My Duc sea area is a rare phenomenon in Gia Lai sea area.
This sea area has experienced a period of prolonged hot weather. When entering the rainy season, temperature differences and changes in the atmosphere can increase air instability, creating conditions for convection currents to develop strongly.
Through satellite monitoring, the time the water cannon appeared was also when convective clouds developed in the sea area.
People can pay attention to signs such as strongly developing thunderstorm clouds, lowering the base of the cloud, extending downwards, or forming a funnel-like structure. This may be a sign that a vortex is developing.
The meteorological agency recommends that sea water cannons can be dangerous for ships and people operating at sea. When detecting strong water cannons or thunderstorm clouds, people need to quickly move away from dangerous areas, find safe shelter and limit access to observe and record.
