On June 28, the People's Committee of Ayun Pa town (Gia Lai province) reported the results of inspections and handling of reports related to the case of a series of trees in the premises of the People's Committee of Cheo Reo ward being cut down for sale before the merger.
According to the explanation of the People's Committee of Cheo Reo Ward, in early 2025, the ward's trade union has a policy of asking for opinions from the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward on cutting and clearing acacia trees in the ward premises.
The reason for the current situation is that some trees have leaning onto the road, some trees show signs of uprooting and getting entangled in power lines, causing the risk of the fence collapsing.
After that, Cheo Reo ward sawed down the cajuput trees. After verification, the amount of money from selling the trees was 8 million VND and was given to Mr. Truong Thanh Hung (Ward Military Commander) to return to the ward People's Committee cashier to join the fund.
Regarding the cutting of trees in the ward premises, the ward union has asked for approval from the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward before implementing it and it has been clearly publicized, the sale amount is entered into the ward fund and determined not to be for personal gain.
However, the People's Committee of Ayun Pa town determined that Cheo Reo ward's failure to seek opinions from competent authorities before cutting down a series of trees and not organizing an auction (the trees are determined to be public assets) is not in accordance with regulations. The responsibility belongs to the collective leadership of Cheo Reo ward and related individuals.
Through the incident, the town authorities requested strict handling of violations leading to loss and waste of assets, associated with the responsibility of the head of the unit if violations occurred.
