QUÁCH DU |

Following Lao Dong Newspaper's reflection on an abandoned archaeological site, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province has requested to verify and clarify the matter.

On January 7, information from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province said that it had just sent a document requesting the People's Committee of Ba Thuoc district to verify and clarify the information reflected by Lao Dong Newspaper on January 6, 2025 about the Mai Da Dieu relic (in Ha Trung commune, Ba Thuoc district).

According to the article, the provincial relic site Mai Da Dieu (in Khieng village, Ha Trung commune, Ba Thuoc district, Thanh Hoa province) is abandoned, with weeds growing wildly inside, and has not been cared for, restored, or embellished.

Thanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that in 2005, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee ranked the archaeological site of Mai Da Dieu, Ha Trung commune, Ba Thuoc district in Decision No. 69/QD-CT.

By 2017, the Provincial People's Committee decided to support funding for handling archaeological excavation pits, fences to protect excavation pit areas and fence systems to protect relic sites with a total project estimate of VND 1,190,453,000 (including provincial budget, socialized sources and other legally mobilized sources).

To avoid wasting the money invested by the state and contributed by the people while the relic cannot promote its value, has no one to look after or take care of it, etc., the People's Committee of Ba Thuoc district is requested to direct relevant departments and functional departments and the People's Committee of Ha Trung commune to verify and clarify the contents reflected by Lao Dong Newspaper.

At the same time, clarify the responsibilities of collectives, individuals, and leaders in "abandoning relics" and take disciplinary action (if any); proactively respond to Lao Dong Newspaper and report to the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the implementation results before January 11, 2025.

Also according to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province, in Ba Thuoc district there are currently 9 ranked relics (including 2 archaeological relics). It is recommended that the People's Committee of Ba Thuoc district direct departments, offices, units and localities to urgently inspect, review and rectify the management, protection and promotion of the value of relics in the area, and strengthen the relic management board/team in accordance with regulations; report and make specific proposals on issues beyond their authority (if any).

Regarding Lao Dong Newspaper's reflection on the above incident, Thanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will organize a field inspection and work with the locality on January 9.
