Attention to timely restoration of national monuments
Last September, Vinh Bao district (Hai Phong) urgently repaired three degraded items at the Temple of Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem - a special national relic of the city.
The items to be repaired include: Kinh Thien Pen Tower, Trung Tan Restaurant, yard and wall of the Administration House of the Special National Relic Site of Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem Temple. The urgent repair project has a total capital of more than 4.7 billion VND, invested by Vinh Bao District People's Committee. Of which, Hai Phong City budget supports 4 billion VND, the remaining funding comes from the district budget.
Along with this monument, Hai Phong City authorities are urgently surveying and designing for appraisal and approval, striving to start the investment project to build, restore and embellish the Ben K15 National Monument complex in the first quarter of 2025. Accordingly, Ben K15 Monument has degraded. In particular, storm No. 3 on September 7 caused dozens of square meters of stone monument cladding to be broken and damaged and 20 shade trees to be broken and fallen...
The city has decided to invest in the construction, renovation and overall restoration of the K15 Wharf Relic Site on an area of 2.28 hectares with a total investment of VND 234,539 billion, implemented from 2021-2026 with the goal of ensuring synchronization in architecture, landscape, promoting the value of the K15 Wharf Relic Site - a destination for political, cultural and tourist activities of Do Son district, Hai Phong in particular and the whole country in general.
According to statistics from the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong City, there are currently 942 relics in the city, including 1 World Natural Heritage Site, 2 Special National Monuments, and 119 National Monuments. The characteristics of historical relics are works with a long history, which have been degraded over time.
Through a survey, the whole city has about 73 national relics that are degraded, showing signs of degradation, and all of them are of interest to the city, with plans for restoration and embellishment.
Preserving the soul and promoting the value of relics
Mr. Trinh Van Tu - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong City - said that the Department has surveyed the current situation and advised the City People's Committee to submit to the City People's Council to issue Resolution No. 82/2022/NQ-HDND dated December 9, 2022 on public funding for the restoration and embellishment of National Monuments in the city, period 2023 - 2027.
According to the Resolution, the city will provide 103 billion VND in public funding to restore and embellish 73 national monuments, with different levels of funding, from 500 million VND, 1 billion VND, 2 billion VND, depending on the level of degradation of the monuments. To date, many monuments have been restored and embellished in a timely manner.
According to the leader of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong City, the restoration is based on the principle of making the most of the original elements that make up the relic, old structures, and old artifacts for the relic which is a national architectural and artistic relic.
Along with allocating budget resources to focus on investing in the restoration and embellishment of relics, the city also encourages people, organizations and individuals to contribute to the restoration and embellishment of relics. Thereby, many relics have been promptly and spaciously restored, promoting the value of the relics, meeting the cultural needs of local people and visitors.
