On July 13, the People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Zone (An Giang) issued notice No. 03 on the boat capsizing carrying tourists in the Hon May Rut Ngoai area, Phu Quoc special zone.
According to the Special Zone People's Committee, yesterday (July 12, 2026), 14 rescued Indian tourists left Phu Quoc to Ho Chi Minh City or exited the country with stable health status.
In the afternoon of the same day, the Investigation Police Agency of An Giang Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute a criminal case, temporarily detaining Nguyen Hong Hai (born 1969, residing in Son Kien commune, An Giang province; temporarily residing in Phu Quoc special zone) for investigation for violating legal regulations related to the above-mentioned canoe capsizing case.
As for the 15 bodies of the unfortunate tourists, they were brought to the Ho Chi Minh City Forensic Center last night for preservation and treatment according to regulations and requests from the Indian side. Representatives of the leaders of the An Giang Provincial Department of Tourism (in charge of foreign affairs) were present earlier to closely coordinate this handover work. Tonight, July 13, a flight from Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City) is expected to bring these 15 deceased tourists back to their homeland India.
This morning (July 13), the Indian patient was taken by specialized doctors of Phu Quoc International Sun Hospital and Cho Ray Hospital to Ho Chi Minh City by plane to continue treatment at Cho Ray Hospital. Leaders of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone People's Committee visited Phu Quoc International Airport to visit and encourage the patient's family and presented about 3,400 USD.

2 tourists who were rescued earlier also left the island at 2 pm today. Leaders of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone People's Committee visited, encouraged and directly presented gifts to these 2 tourists at 18 million VND/person (about 700 USD/person), and to 3 unfortunate victims' families at 264 million VND (about 3,400 USD/person). The remaining amount will be awarded immediately after receiving feedback from the Indian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.
