After a series of articles by Lao Dong Newspaper about fishermen in Quang Binh losing connection to monitor their journeys, leading to people not being able to submit documents to receive fuel costs, the Department of Fisheries has taken initial steps to support fishermen.
On December 30, the Department of Fisheries of Quang Binh province said it had just received a document from the Department of Fisheries regarding support for fishing vessels affected by the force majeure satellite incident on April 15, 2024.
The Department of Fisheries requested specialized units to coordinate with VNPT to review and inspect cases of fishing vessels affected by force majeure satellite incidents according to the list announced by the Telecommunications Services Corporation to confirm cases of fishing vessels affected by force majeure incidents.
VNPT will preside over and coordinate with relevant units to synchronize journey monitoring data for cases where there is journey location data that has not been sent to the fishing vessel monitoring data center under the State management agency for fisheries.
VNPT Quang Binh Business Center said that it is expected that in 2024, it will verify all ships affected by the force majeure satellite incident to report.
VNPT coordinated with the Quang Binh Fisheries Department to review these fishing vessels. Initial statistics show that more than 700 fishing vessels were affected in Quang Binh. More than 300 affected vessels were supported under Decision 48 of the Prime Minister.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper published an article titled “Fishermen suffer because they cannot submit documents to receive fuel costs”. Accordingly, nearly 70 fishermen in Bao Ninh Commune (Dong Hoi City) could not submit documents because they lost connection to monitor their journey.
Some fishermen from Bao Ninh commune and the Quang Binh Network Business Center had a meeting. Documents provided by the fishermen clearly stated that the loss of connection occurred from 11pm on April 15, 2024, due to a problem with the Thuraya 3 satellite.
The households requested the network operator to be responsible and give opinions to the Provincial People's Committee to resolve and support according to Decision 48 of the Prime Minister.
