Streets light up, street vendors display goods
In recent days, the number of tourists coming to Vung Tau (HCMC) to have fun and relax in the summer has increased. In addition to eating and swimming, many tourists also gathered at famous check-in points in the area, typically Tam Thang square area, belonging to Thuy Van park project in Bai Sau.
The large number of customers also leads to the outbreak of street vendors. Records in Tam Thang square area show that when many tourists gather, many individuals will quickly appear using bicycles and motorbikes to move and sell street vendors.
During the day, the number of customers is not too large, so street vendors only appear sporadically. However, at night when Tam Thang Tower lights up, a large number of tourists flock to the square to check in, then the street vendor force also starts to gradually increase. Some cases even display chairs in the square area to trade.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh (resident of Tam Thang ward) said that business activities take place in the area opposite Tam Thang Tower, located right on the axis leading to the sea, so it has somewhat hindered people's movement.
I often walk to the beach with my family to relax and exercise at night. This business operation sometimes forces me to take a detour, or I can't stop at this area and have to choose another location," said Mr. Hoang Anh.
Without functional forces, street vendors are booming again
According to Vung Tau Ward People's Committee, Thuy Van Park project (including Tam Thang square and the expansion section) has now been handed over to the Traffic Management and Technical Infrastructure Center (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction) for management.
Previously, the locality had repeatedly launched campaigns to rectify the situation of street vendors in this area, and at the same time strengthened patrols, reminders, fines and confiscated many vehicles and tools. At the same time, some units operating in this area also participated in support.
However, these solutions are only temporary, because when functional forces are absent, street vendors operate again. During peak campaigns, this situation has subsided but now it has broken out again.
The locality has also just sent a document to the Traffic Management and Technical Infrastructure Center; and at the same time sent it to the Ward Police and the Neighborhood Management Board in this area requesting to strengthen security and order in the Tam Thang Tower area and Thuy Van park," said Mr. Vo Van Thanh Sang - Vice Chairman of Vung Tau Ward People's Committee.
According to Mr. Sang, this area is currently being organized for bidding by functional agencies to find an official management and operation unit. After completion, the locality will coordinate with the selected unit to implement drastic solutions to prevent spontaneous street vendors in public areas. Thereby contributing to making the area a modern tourism highlight of Vung Tau ward in particular and Ho Chi Minh City in general.
