On August 27, the Party Committee of Long Hai commune (HCMC) said that it had organized an expanded Conference of the Executive Committee of the Commune Party Committee to evaluate activities after the operation of the 2-level local government model and give opinions on the plan to arrange administrative units in the coming time.
Long Hai commune was established from Long Hai town, Phuoc Tinh commune, Phuoc Hung commune belonging to Long Dat district, former Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, with an area of nearly 28km2, a real population of more than 120,000 people, and has met 9/9 criteria for becoming a ward.
In which, Phuoc Tinh fishing village was once known as a "village of billionaires" thanks to large income from offshore seafood fishing and fishery logistics services. Previously, this fishing village had many fishermen owning pairs of ships worth tens of billions of VND and many people getting rich from shipbuilding and ship repair. At peak times, Phuoc Tinh has a fleet of thousands of ships, along with a system of ports, warehouses... leading the eastern region of Ho Chi Minh City in terms of catch output and seafood exploitation revenue.
In the conference, the Standing Committee of the Long Hai Commune Party Committee deployed the official dispatch of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on continuing to study the plan to arrange commune-level administrative units.
After listening to the dissemination of the content of the official dispatch, the delegates conducted democratic discussions, objectively and comprehensively assessed the specific factors of the locality. The conference conducted a vote with a 100% consensus on the content that Long Hai commune is currently not really necessary to merge with neighboring communes and wards.
It is known that Long Hai is one of the communes under the Project to establish 29 wards based on the status quo of communes, which was just approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in the 4th session (specialized session) held on August 27.
Another locality included in this project also agreed to propose keeping the administrative unit as Ngai Giao commune. This locality has organized a Conference of the Executive Committee of the Commune Party Committee to comprehensively assess the organizational and operational situation after the operation of the 2-level local government model; and propose a plan to keep or merge the commune administrative unit.
Based on actual assessment and discussion and analysis, the conference voted with 100% of opinions proposing to maintain the current administrative unit of Ngai Giao commune. Maintaining the administrative unit does not mean stopping, but aims to continue to consolidate the organizational structure, improve management efficiency, service quality and focus resources on local development.
