On the morning of August 7, a source from the An Giang provincial authorities initially confirmed the cause of the serious accident on the Vàm Nao River between a passenger ferry and a foreign ship that occurred in the afternoon of August 6, 2024.
A source from the An Giang Provincial Police Department's Traffic Police Division stated that after inspecting the blood alcohol content of the ship's captain and the passenger ferry's captain, both were found to be 0.00mg/l of breath. However, the passenger ferry had some other errors. Specifically, according to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyễn Văn Nghĩa - Deputy Director of the An Giang Provincial Police Department's Traffic Police Division, this passenger ferry is not allowed to transport cars, but at the time of the accident, it was carrying a car. In addition, the passenger ferry had a captain but no chief engineer when in operation.
Meanwhile, the An Giang Department of Transportation's Inspection Office also initially determined that the passenger ferry's driver lacked observation skills while operating the vehicle. At the time of the collision, the ship's speed was quite fast, and the pilot had blown the horn multiple times before hitting the ferry.
