On the afternoon of October 29, the People's Committee of An Giang province held a meeting to review the organization of activities to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the completion of Vinh Te canal (1824 - 2024) and commemorate the 198th anniversary of the death of Mrs. Chau Thi Te (1826 - 2024).
The event is expected to take place over 2 days (November 14-15, 2024) in Sam Mountain area, Chau Doc city with many practical activities.
Besides the traditional ritual ceremonies such as: Tien worship ceremony, Chanh Te worship ceremony held at the national relic Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb, there is also a national scientific conference, at the same time receiving the recognition of the Vietnamese record "Vinh Te Canal - The longest manual canal in Vietnam".
In addition, Chau Doc City also organizes social security, cultural - artistic, physical education - sports activities... to serve the majority of people.
According to documents from the Department of Information and Communications of An Giang province, Vinh Te canal is 91 km long, starting from the west bank of Chau Doc river and connecting directly to Giang Thanh river (Ha Tien city, Kien Giang province today). The project was dug by Mr. Nguyen Van Thoai for 5 years, divided into 3 phases.
The canal began construction in 1819 under the reign of King Gia Long and was completed in 1824 under the reign of King Minh Mang. Vinh Te Canal is a large project with many values in terms of national defense, transportation, trade, irrigation as well as agriculture and this value is still being promoted to this day.
