The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has just sent an urgent dispatch to the Department of Construction of Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces, requesting coordination in implementing the investment plan for metro lines connecting to Metro Line 1.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has drafted a decision to establish an interdisciplinary working group to promote investment in the inter-regional urban railway line. The working group is expected to have the participation of leaders of the Department of Construction, the Department of Finance and related departments from three localities.
To develop an overall plan, Ho Chi Minh City requested Binh Duong and Dong Nai to provide detailed information on the planning and progress of local metro lines connecting to Metro Line 1.
Important timelines need to be determined such as preparing and appraising pre-feasibility and feasibility reports, investment decisions, starting, completing and putting into operation.
feedback documents from the two provinces must be sent to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport before April 10. This information will be compiled and submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in coordination with the People's Committees of Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces to sign and issue a comprehensive plan, as a basis for implementing investment in the regional metro network in the coming time.

Metro Line 1 is nearly 20 km long, the first metro line in Ho Chi Minh City, connecting from the center of District 1 to Long Binh Depot (Thu Duc City). After 12 years of construction, the route has been officially put into commercial operation since December 22, 2024.
According to the agreed plan between Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Dong Nai, Metro Line 1 will be extended from Suoi Tien Station (near the new Mien Dong Bus Station) to go elevated along National Highway 1, turn left to Binh Thang Station (S0) near Tan Van intersection (Binh Duong), then separate into two branches to Binh Duong and Dong Nai.
Binh Duong province has proactively prepared a pre-feasibility study report for the New City - Suoi Tien metro line. This route is about 32.43km long, starting from S1 station (Binh Duong New City, Hoa Phu ward, Thu Dau Mot city) and ending at Suoi Tien station (connecting to Metro Line 1 HCMC).
The route passes through the cities of Tan Uyen, Thu Dau Mot, Thuan An and Di An. The total estimated investment capital is about 64,370 billion VND from the budget.

At the same time, Dong Nai province is also hiring a consultant to prepare a research report on the metro line connecting to Metro Line 1 of Ho Chi Minh City.
This route is nearly 21 km long, starting from S0 station and ending at the expected depot in Ho Nai 3 commune (Trang Bom district, Dong Nai). The total investment for the section through Dong Nai is estimated at about 30,000 billion VND.
Regarding capital, Dong Nai province plans to mobilize from three main sources: the provincial budget, the central budget support and loans (ODA or local bond issuance).
