The accident occurred at around 1:00 a.m. on September 24 on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet highway, km 227 + 800 through Ham Thanh commune, Ham Thuan Nam district, Binh Thuan.
At that time, the sleeper bus with license plate 78B - 003.70 of Phu Yen province was traveling from North to South. When it reached the above location, it hit the rear of a tractor-trailer in the same direction ahead, license plate 15C - 147.64. The collision caused the front of the bus to stick to the rear of the tractor-trailer.
Passengers in the car screamed. Cars on the road stopped to help break the windows of the bus to get the people out. The front of the bus was crushed and deformed. The driver was stuck in the driver's seat and called for help. A tractor-trailer on the road helped separate the two crashed vehicles to get the bus driver out.
Five ambulances arrived at the scene to take the driver and injured passengers to the hospital. However, upon arrival at Binh Thuan General Hospital, the bus driver died.
At 3am, reporters arrived at the hospital and recorded that about 12 passengers involved in the accident were taken to the hospital. Doctors and nurses conducted health checks and took them for X-rays to determine the extent of their injuries and for treatment.
Team 6 of the Traffic Police Department in charge of the expressway was present at the scene to regulate traffic. The police conducted an investigation of the accident scene. At 5:00 a.m. the same day, a rescue crane towed the damaged passenger bus away from the scene.
