Truck carrying wood chips overturned, crushing 3 people to death: Truck was speeding

Binh Dinh - Regarding the case of a truck carrying wood chips overturning and killing 3 people in Quy Nhon City, authorities determined that the truck was traveling at a speed exceeding the permitted speed.

On the morning of October 21, Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan chaired a meeting to resolve the consequences of a serious traffic accident that killed 3 people on National Highway 1D (Tay Son 5-way intersection, in Quarter 3, Quang Trung Ward, Quy Nhon City) that occurred yesterday morning (October 20).

Reporting at the meeting, the authorities said that after the accident, the police worked with the driver of the truck carrying wood chips. Through inspection, the driver did not violate alcohol or drug concentration. At the time of the accident, the truck was traveling at a speed exceeding the permitted speed (regulated speed of 40km/h).

After the accident, Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan, Head of Provincial Traffic Safety, visited, shared the loss and supported the families of those who died in the accident with 5 million VND/family.

At the meeting, agencies and units discussed and proposed solutions to ensure traffic safety for transport activities of cargo vehicles, container trucks, passenger cars, handling the situation of drivers speeding, recklessly overtaking, talking on the phone while driving; and management of private inspection units in the province.

Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan said this was a serious traffic accident, causing very painful consequences.

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan has assigned the Provincial Police to investigate, clarify and strictly handle the case. At the same time, clearly identify the responsibilities of relevant agencies to rectify and contribute to limiting unfortunate accidents that may occur in the coming time.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province requested agencies and units to seriously implement instructions related to the field of traffic safety and order; strictly handle drivers and transport businesses that violate the law, especially speeding violations.

Relevant authorities must compile statistics and clarify which training centers the violating drivers attended and were granted driving licenses at and notify that unit to find solutions to rectify the situation...

As Lao Dong reported, at around 10:15 a.m. the same day, truck 77H-025.17 driven by Nguyen Minh Tam (born in 1990, residing in Phu My district) was carrying wood chips on Tay Son street (Quy Nhon city). When reaching the Nguyen Thai Hoc - Tay Son roundabout, the truck suddenly overturned, crushing and killing 3 people walking on the road.

The victims' identities include: Tran Nhat N (born 2015) and Phan Bui Gia B (born 2015), both residing in Nhon Phu ward (Quy Nhon city); Nguyen Tho Ph (born 1993, residing in Nghe An province).
