On August 9, the People's Committee of Lâm Đồng Province announced that it has assigned the Department of Transportation to consider and propose a plan to manage traffic on the Prenn Pass.
At present, the construction unit is preparing to implement measures to address the erosion of the lower section of the Km228+568 culvert and repair localized damage to the Prenn Pass upgrade and expansion project (in Đà Lạt City).
However, during the process of addressing the issue, the construction unit has mobilized some machinery and equipment, such as rubber-tired forklifts, dump trucks, and excavators, which has affected traffic on the Prenn Pass.
Therefore, in order to ensure road safety during the above-mentioned construction process, the construction unit has proposed a plan to divert traffic to one half of the existing road from Km228+424 to Km228+613.
As reported by Lao Động Newspaper, the Prenn Pass is over 7 kilometers long and connects to National Route 20. This is a vital gateway from the provinces in the Southeastern region to Đà Lạt City. In February 2023, the Prenn Pass was invested in with 5,520 billion VND to be expanded to 4 lanes.
In early 2024, the Prenn Pass was opened to traffic and put into use. However, on July 27, 2024, many residents discovered cracks on the road surface at the Prenn Pass.
The location of the cracked road surface is approximately 200 meters from the starting point of the pass near Đà Lạt City. The cracks on the road surface are located on the inner side of the curve, ranging from 1 to 3 cm in width, and stretch for approximately 20 meters.
