On August 17, Hoa Hiep Ward Police coordinated with the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department, Dak Lak Provincial Police to work with the case of using social networks to post information containing elements of superstitious propaganda related to the case of a foreign tourist missing at sea.
Through grasping the situation in cyberspace, the police discovered that L.D. T (residing in Hoa Hiep ward) used personal Facebook and TikTok accounts to post and broadcast live many videos with content promoting superstition.
These videos attract thousands of interactions, comments and shares, posing a risk of causing information confusion, affecting public opinion as well as the search, rescue, and rescue of victims.
Immediately after that, Hoa Hiep Ward Police coordinated to verify and clarify the identity and residence of L.D. T, and invited this person to the headquarters to work.
At the police station, L.D. T. admitted to posting and broadcasting the above content live. This person said that out of compassion, wanting to quickly find the victim, he posted and shared information with superstitious elements, but did not fully realize the negative impacts of these contents on public opinion and search and rescue work.
After being explained by the police agency, L.D. T realized that his actions were incorrect and committed not to re-offend.
Hoa Hiep Ward Police requested L.D. T to write a commitment, implement remedial measures and remove all information posted with violating content.
As Lao Dong Newspaper reported, on the afternoon of August 7, Ms. L.D. B. (residing in Phu Hoa 2 commune, Dak Lak province) and Mr. Z.L. (27 years old, Chinese nationality) were walking in the beach area.
At about 6:45 pm, Mr. Z.L. moved to the beach to wash his hands when he was suddenly swept away by a large wave. The male tourist then went missing in the sea.
Upon receiving the news, Tuy Hoa Ward Police and the Fire and Rescue Police Department of Dak Lak Provincial Police deployed forces and vehicles to organize the search.
However, at the time of the incident, the sea had big waves and strong winds, making search and rescue work difficult. To date, functional forces have not found the victim.
