On May 3, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Trinh Tien Dung - Chairman of Sam Son Ward People's Committee, Thanh Hoa province - said that recently, the ward's functional forces had launched a campaign, "ambushed" and temporarily detained many water motorbikes operating illegally at the beaches.

The ward has temporarily seized 8 water motorbikes operating illegally. These water motorbikes are both in the ward and from neighboring localities brought to Sam Son beach to operate. Currently, there is no longer a situation of water motorbikes operating illegally at beaches" - Mr. Dung informed.
Also according to Mr. Dung, up to now, the operation of water motorbikes in the beach area is not allowed, due to affecting the swimming of tourists. Regarding the licensing of water motorbikes to operate, the ward has reported to the Standing Committee of the ward Party Committee and has a policy to choose locations to operate for this type of vehicle.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reflected, during the April 30 - May 1 holiday, at Sam Son beach, there was a situation of water motorbikes operating uncontrollably, arbitrarily picking up passengers, causing a risk of unsafety for beachgoers.
Water motorbikes do not operate according to fixed wharves, running along the beach at high speed, when customers have needs, they turn in to pick them up, while there are many people swimming in the sea, especially young children. This poses many risks and dangers.
Many tourists said that the ticket price for each water motorbike experience ranges from 300,000 - 350,000 VND, depending on the time and agreement.
According to representatives of the leaders of Sam Son Ward People's Committee, Thanh Hoa province, some businesses have proposed to apply for water motorbike operations in the Sam Son sea area and have been assigned by the province to the locality for research and handling.
However, this is still at the stage of researching and developing policies and plans and has not licensed these vehicles to operate. Therefore, in addition to preventing and handling violations, the locality also assigns specialized departments to advise and develop specific plans to put them into operation according to regulations. This is to diversify tourism products in Sam Son, while creating budget revenue and forming forces to support rescue and relief at sea when incidents occur.
