After receiving information about streamer IshowSpeed being taken 1 million VND when renting an electric balance bike at Nguyen Hue walking street, District 1 Police Command immediately directed Ben Nghe Ward Police to quickly investigate and handle the case.
On September 15, Ben Nghe Ward Police issued a decision to administratively fine V.P.Q.M (23 years old, residing in District 4 - the man accused of "ripping off" streamer IshowSpeed on Nguyen Hue walking street) for the acts of "illegally using urban roads and sidewalks to conduct electric vehicle rental business" and "trading in goods of unknown origin", with a total fine of 10 million VND.
Through verification, Ben Nghe Ward Police identified the two men appearing in IshowSpeed's livestream as V.P.Q.M (23 years old, residing in District 4) and N.M.H (53 years old, residing in District 1), so they invited them to the headquarters for questioning on the night of September 14.
At the investigation agency, both confessed that at around 5:30 p.m. on September 14, Mr. H. took a motorbike taxi to the corner of Huynh Thuc Khang - Nguyen Hue (District 1) to play with M. At this time, M brought three electric balance bikes into Nguyen Hue walking street to rent to people for money.
When we brought the bikes out, there were no customers yet, so each person used a balance bike to ride around, when we saw a group of foreigners coming.
At this time, IshowSpeed came to see H and M, asking in English how much it would cost to rent a car. At that time, M said that he did not know English so he asked M in Vietnamese about the price of the car rental.
M said the rental price was 1 million VND/hour. H told IshowSpeed. Then, IshowSpeed gave H a stack of money and asked which money, Mr. H took out two 500,000 VND bills from the male streamer's hand.
After giving the money, IshowSpeed got on the balance bike to experience it. H gave 1 million VND back to M and continued playing with the balance bike.
At about 6:35 p.m., H returned to M's place and was checked by Ben Nghe Ward Police and invited to come in for questioning.
According to the investigation agency, in addition to being administratively punished, M also had his vehicle confiscated and was forced to write a commitment to comply with regulations and not re-offend.
H was identified as just M's friend, not the person who rented the car. At the time of the incident, because M did not know English, H translated for M. Therefore, H was not prosecuted.
After working with the police, the two men realized their actions were wrong, so they went to the hotel where IshowSpeed was attending the event to apologize.
Here, the representative of IshowSpeed accepted the apology of both, happily received the money back and thanked the authorities for quickly handling the case.
