As reported by Lao Dong, 4.4 million cars are facing the risk of not being able to pass through the non-stop toll station because they have not upgraded their ETC non-stop toll account to a traffic account with a connection to a non-cash payment method.
Accordingly, Decree 119/2024/ND-CP stipulates that car owners must convert their toll collection account to a traffic account with a connection to a non-cash payment method before October 1, 2025.
With the above regulation, from October 1, if the vehicle owner does not have a traffic account connected to the non-cash payment method, he/she will not be allowed to travel through the non-stop toll station (ETC).
It is estimated that only about 30% of the total 6.3 million vehicles using automatic toll collection services do not stop account conversion.
Thus, there are still about 70%, equivalent to more than 4.4 million cars, that have not converted to non-stop toll collection accounts.
Immediately after the above information was posted, Lao Dong reporter's research showed that many vehicle owners on August 11 upgraded their toll collection accounts according to the instructions of the toll collection service providers without stopping.
Talking to Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Tran Ngoc Vinh (character's name has been changed) said that in reality, the process of converting from a toll collection account to a traffic account is not too complicated and is integrated right on the application of toll collection service providers.
"On the VETC fee collection account application of VETC Automatic Toll Collection Company Limited, it took me less than 5 minutes to complete upgrading the fee collection account to a traffic account with a pre-connected non-cash payment method, VETC wallet" - Mr. Vinh said.
Notably, when implementing the upgrade, Mr. Vinh said that the remaining amount in the (old) toll collection account can be connected and transferred to the VETC wallet and from here the money can be transferred back to the bank account of an individual with a connection to the wallet.

Also carrying out the conversion of the toll collection account to the VETC wallet connection account, another vehicle owner, Mr. B.V.L (the person suggesting the abbreviation of the name) on the afternoon of August 11, said that he had withdrawn money from the old toll collection account to transfer to the VETC wallet.
"I withdraw money according to the instructions of the VETC application, the money is withdrawn from the toll collection account very quickly, but according to the announcement from VETC, the amount will only be transferred to the VETC wallet within 10 working days" - Mr. B.V.L informed.
Meanwhile, according to VETC's announcement, not only paying for non-stop toll collection services, vehicle owners can also use VETC wallets to pay for parking fees, pay for gasoline without cash, road infrastructure fees, etc.
Along with VETC, many non-stop toll collection service providers are also implementing non-cash payment methods (such as ePass with Viettel Monney wallet, MoMo, Visa; VETC with VETC wallet).
The process of converting from a toll collection account to a traffic account usually takes only about 5-10 minutes and is integrated on the application of the toll collection service provider.
