5 wrong car care tips that many people believe in

Many car care tips are widely spread but are no longer suitable for modern cars, and even pose potential safety risks.

Many old experiences are no longer suitable for modern cars

In the process of using cars, many car owners often apply word-of-mouth car care tips. However, many experiences are only true for old cars or only partially true.

A common example is to replace engine oil earlier than the manufacturer's recommendation to be "solid". In fact, engine oil is currently produced with high-quality technology and additives, capable of protecting the engine during the standard maintenance cycle.

Mr. Michael Cottam - a technical expert at the American Association of Automotive Engineers (Society of Automotive Engineers), said that changing oil too early does not help the engine be more durable but only increases costs and the amount of oil discharged into the environment.

Another concept is to inflate tires very tightly to reduce fuel consumption. However, tires that are too tight reduce the area of contact with the road surface, causing the car to reduce grip, easily skid when braking suddenly or cornering. In addition, high tire pressure also causes the car to vibrate and increase the risk of tire blowouts when driving fast or in hot sunny weather.

5 common mistakes when car care

Changing engine oil too early: Changing oil before the recommended cycle is usually unnecessary, unless the car operates in harsh conditions such as steep mountain passes, dust, or is rarely used for a long time.

Pump tires tightly to save fuel: Too high tire pressure reduces road grip and increases the risk of unsafety. Car owners should pump tires according to the manufacturer's recommended level.

Tires with thorns are still good to use: According to Mr. Jonathan Benson, tire testing expert at Tyre Reviews magazine (UK), car tires usually have a lifespan of about 5-6 years, maximum 10 years or 40,000-80,000km. Even if the thorns are still thick, rubber can still age and reduce road grip.

Regularly spray and wash the engine compartment with high-pressure nozzles: Modern cars have many sensors and electronic systems. Water or chemicals can cause short circuits or sensor errors if they penetrate these parts.

Use dish soap to wash car windows: Dish soap can leave faint streaks on the windshield and reduce the lifespan of the window cleaning pump. Specialized window cleaning solution is still a more suitable choice.
