The Ministry of Transport has just answered people's questions about cases where people aged 16 to 18 are not allowed to drive 50cc motorbikes according to the new regulations?

A resident asked, is it correct that according to the new regulations from January 1, 2025, people aged 16 to 18 are not allowed to drive 50 cm3 vehicles?

Regarding this issue, the Ministry of Transport responded as follows:

According to the provisions of Article 59 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024, effective from January 1, 2025, people aged 16 and over are allowed to drive motorbikes.

Motorbikes are defined as vehicles with two or three wheels powered by engines, with a design speed not exceeding 50 km/h; if using a thermal engine, the working capacity is not greater than 50 cm3; if using an electric motor, the capacity is not greater than 4 kW.

Therefore, from January 1, 2025, people aged 16 to under 18 are still allowed to drive vehicles with a cylinder capacity of 50 cm3 or less. However, people under 16 years old will not be allowed to drive these types of vehicles.
