Change gasoline for electricity, from the movement to the green trend of Vietnamese people

In the last days of June, VinFast's "exchange of gasoline for electricity" event attracted thousands of people in the capital. Not just a regular promotional program, this is considered a symbol of the green vehicle conversion movement that is spreading in the community, from motorbikes to cars.

People are excited to change to electric vehicles

Since the morning of June 21, the atmosphere at VinFast's " gasoline exchange for electricity" event held at Thanh Xuan Park has become bustling as thousands of people flock to VinFast's electric motorbike display area.

Many people come to see it out of curiosity, but most of them come with the determination to "upgrade" green vehicles. Ms. Le Thu Hang (Cau Giay Ward, Hanoi) shared: My family has two gasoline motorbikes but now we have switched to electric vehicles because it is very convenient to travel in the city. I exchanged the old one for an Evo200, which was discounted and also saved fuel every month.

During the two days of the event in Hanoi (21 and 22/8), nearly 1,000 electric motorbikes were sold or deposits were received. Of which, about 600 vehicles are from "old-in-the-old, new-in-the-old" transactions.

Many customers brought gasoline motorbikes and switched to VinFast electric motorbikes on the spot. Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Buoi ward, Hanoi - said: "I have wondered about changing my vehicle, because I am used to using gasoline vehicles. However, when my wife switched to electric cars, I tried them and liked them very much, so today I brought out a gasoline car to exchange them."

Previously, in Ho Chi Minh City, VinFast's "Change gasoline for electricity" program on June 14-15 also recorded nearly 600 electric motorbikes being sold, of which nearly 250 were the result of traditional and innovative purchases. From these figures, it can be seen that converting to green vehicles is becoming a practical choice for many people.

Not only two-wheeled vehicles, VinFast's program also extends to customers who own gasoline cars to switch to electric cars from VF 3 to VF 9, with a support level of up to 100 million VND, applied from June 24 nationwide.

Pioneering in green vehicle conversion

VinFast is considered a pioneer in promoting the transition from gasoline vehicles to electric vehicles in Vietnam. Not only organizing a series of events in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City in June, the company also continuously launched practical support policies, typically free battery charging for both cars and electric motorbikes at V-Green public charging stations.

In particular, the 3rd "Intensive Vietnamese spirit - For a green future" campaign with a preferential price of up to 20% lower than before has helped electric motorbike models reach deeper into popular customer groups, especially students and urban workers. According to VinFast representative, in the first quarter of 2025, the company recorded an outstanding growth in electric motorbike sales compared to the same period last year.

Not only stopping in the motorbike market, VinFast is leading the electric car segment in Vietnam. In the first 5 months of 2025 alone, the company has delivered nearly 56,000 electric cars, with VF 3, VF 5, VF 6 models continuously occupying the top positions in the sales table.
This green transformation trend has received strong consensus from State management agencies.

Speaking at the discussion session "Green transformation - Joining hands for a sustainable Vietnam", Mr. Nguyen Huu Tien - Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology, Environment and Construction Materials (Ministry of Construction) said: "Currently, the legal corridor for electric vehicles is relatively complete. In the near future, when checking vehicle emissions, there will be policies to support people to convert to suitable vehicles".

According to Mr. Tien, low-emission zones have begun to form in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. At the same time, regulations on prioritizing clean vehicles are also included in urban traffic planning projects. At the same time, ministries and branches are coordinating to develop standards for charging infrastructure at rest stops, bus stations and residential areas to create maximum convenient conditions for users.

The key to success lies in the coordination between management agencies, businesses and people. The policy is necessary, but people also need to proactively change their thinking, be ready to choose environmentally friendly vehicles" - Mr. Tien emphasized.

Data from Motorcycles Data also shows that in the recovery of the motorbike market, the electric vehicle segment is a bright spot. This is a clear sign that "electrification" of transportation is no longer a distant prospect but is gradually becoming an existing reality.

Looking at the numbers and specific actions, it can be said that the movement of "exchanging gasoline for electricity" does not stop at the communication campaign, but has become a widespread trend in Vietnamese society. This is also a model that needs to be replicated when Vietnam promotes the conversion of electric vehicles.
