Green transport needs to accelerate to achieve the NetZero target

Đức Vân |

The transportation industry accounts for a significant proportion of the country's total CO2 emissions and consumes a large amount of energy. In the transition to green transportation, Vietnam is going slowly, the pressure to achieve NetZero by 2050 poses many challenges.

Many synchronous support solutions to develop green transportation

To promote green transportation, the Prime Minister issued Decision 876/QD-TTg approving the action program on green energy conversion, reducing carbon and methane emissions in the transportation sector, aiming for net zero emissions by 2050. The focus is on developing high-speed railways, electrifying national railways, building green ports and converting vehicles to electricity and clean energy.

According to Prof. Dr. Le Hung Lan - Vice President of the Vietnam Automation Association, Head of the Transport and Logistics Automation Association, there are 7 areas for green economic development, of which green transport is one of the most important.

Prof. Dr. Lan proposed a green transport development strategy with 3 goals:

First, reduce demand and distance, travel time. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to integrate traffic and construction planning (TOD); provide accurate and complete traffic information and guidance to traffic participants in real time; and at the same time develop smart logistics.

Second, converting environmentally friendly transportation methods.

Third, improve the efficiency of the transportation system through real-time traffic management and operation... Up to now, many provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang... have applied advanced science and technology, formed smart traffic control centers, and increased green conversion of vehicles participating in traffic.

"However, in the implementation process, there are still limitations that need to be removed, from policy to implementation experience" - Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hai, Head of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics, University of Transport commented.

Launching a campaign to strongly promote "green transportation"

Speaking about the pioneering nature of the enterprise, it is impossible not to mention VinFast as well as the Vingroup ecosystem with consecutive major campaigns to promote green transformation. In particular, recently, VinFast continued to launch the 3rd "Intensive Vietnamese spirit - For a green future" campaign to create opportunities to access electric vehicles at the best price for everyone.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Quang - Vice Chairman and General Director of Vingroup Corporation - said: "Faced with the serious environmental pollution, the main factor being emissions from vehicles using fossil energy, we decided to implement the 3rd Vietnam spirit - For a green future program to resolutely respond to regain a green sky for us and our children".

Intensive Vietnamese spirit - For a green future 3 is a continuation of the inspiring journey of the Intensive Vietnamese spirit campaign series. From the 1st time - 2018, the 2nd time - 2024 to now, "The Powerful Vietnamese Spirit" has become a symbol of the creative spirit and aspiration to rise up of the Vietnamese people.

After 8 years of establishment, VinFast has not only risen to the No. 1 position in the domestic auto market, proud to become the only Vietnamese brand currently listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange (USA) but also a pioneering car company in the world to completely switch to a pure electric car company, participating in leading the global green revolution.

VinFast's program soon received the support of many people.

Current car prices are better than ever, even cheaper than gasoline cars of the same type - Mr. Le Hoang Long (Go Vap district, Ho Chi Minh City) - who just bought a VinFast Evo Neo electric motorbike - said.

According to experts, the campaign "Intensive Vietnamese spirit - For a green future 3" is a further step - both creating easier access to electric vehicles for the masses and promoting the transition to green vehicles to spread widely.
