BYD and NEV (a new energy car maker) have cooperated with DJI (a Chinese drone maker) to launch a car-based drone system called Ling Yuan.
The system's hardware includes a container, a drone, and a modular controller. BYD also provides the Ling Yuan application, AI recognition software, and image and music editing software. The drone container has an area of 0.29m2 when opened with a thickness of 21.5cm.
The drone support system takes off and lands at speeds of up to 25km/h, allowing the drone to automatically return within 2km. The drone can fly at a speed of up to 54km/h.
When the battery is about to run out, the drone will automatically return to the vehicle to charge at a rate of 20-80% for 30 minutes.
BYD CEO and Chairman Vuong Truyen Phuc said that the current demand of consumers wants more than a means of transportation but instead a mobile space for movement, entertainment and connection.
