A Bentley representative said that the W12 engine has been discontinued to make way for the "ultra-high performance hybrid" powertrain launched on the new Continental GT Speed.
According to Bentley, since the first generation Bentley Continental GT was launched in 2003, this luxury car line has had more than 100,000 W12 engines handcrafted at Dream Factory.
In nearly two decades of existence, this engine has increased power by 34% and torque by 54%, while reducing CO2 emissions by 25%.
Besides, in recent years, Bentley has broken records with car models using the W12 engine. Among them, two ice speed records belong to the 2007 Continental GT and the 2011 Continental GTC. Both were driven by WRC champion Juha Kankkunen.
The above engine also helps Bentley cars win records at major awards such as Pikes Peak with Bentayga Speed in 2018 and Continental GT Speed in 2019.
The W12 was finally displayed by Bentley alongside members of its research and development (R&D) team at an event at Bentley's Heritage Garage in Crewe.
Additionally, those involved in powertrain assembly received a W12 engine piston from Bentley as a gift for their efforts.
