The Syros is a key part of Kia’s 2.0 strategy in India, which aims to cater to the specific needs of local customers while retaining global appeal. The Syros will fill the gap between the Sonet and Seltos models in the company’s portfolio.
The Syros name follows Kia's "S" naming pattern for its SUVs. Other models include the Sonet, Seltos, Stonic, Sportage and Sorento. However, the company has not revealed the exact meaning of the name, which is understood by users as an island in Greece.
From the images on Kia’s site, the Syros has a boxy silhouette reminiscent of the Carnival minivan, with a flat roof and nearly vertical rear doors. The exterior design is dominated by chunky B-pillars, similar to models like the Hyundai Casper and Inster. Other design highlights include LED headlights positioned at the front bumper lip and L-shaped taillights that wrap around the rear window.
Gwanggu Lee, CEO of Kia in India, said that the new model will no longer follow the traditional SUV style but adopt the advanced SUV design language. The CEO also promised that Kia will provide segment-leading features with outstanding performance and absolute comfort, focusing on the needs of customers in India.
According to Autocar India, the Syros' interior will be luxurious through futuristic features and innovative seat layouts. The expected equipment list includes: a 10.25-inch infotainment screen; electrically adjustable and ventilated seats; a panoramic sunroof and a Bose sound system; the car will also have 6 airbags and many other advanced safety features.
The Kia Syros will be available with two non-electrified powertrains: a 1.0-liter turbo petrol and a 1.5-liter diesel. A pure electric version will follow in the future. Power will be sent to the front axle via a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Once launched, the Kia Syros is expected to go on sale in India in early 2025. With the new SUV being promoted across global channels, it is likely to be sold in other markets as well.
