In the third quarter, BYD sold 1.13 million vehicles (up 38% compared to the same period in 2023). Meanwhile, Ford sold about 40,000 fewer vehicles in the same period and dropped to 7th place. Previously, in the first 9 months of 2024, Ford was still ahead of BYD with global sales of 3.3 million vehicles, slightly higher than BYD's 3.25 million vehicles.
According to experts, if this growth momentum is maintained, BYD could surpass Ford in 2024 and reach the milestone of more than 4 million vehicles sold. In addition, other Chinese automakers are also putting pressure on traditional manufacturers with positive signs in sales.
Geely saw a 14% increase in sales in the first three quarters of 2024 with 820,000 vehicles, ranking ninth after Honda. Chery also reached 12th place with a 27% increase in sales of 550,000 vehicles.
According to Nikkei Asia, BYD's growth will help improve its finances. In the third quarter, BYD achieved revenue of about 201 billion yuan (about more than 685,975 billion VND), surpassing Tesla.
Currently, BYD does not sell cars in the US but has researched building a factory in Mexico to avoid import taxes when entering this region.
