Losing a license plate during a storm or flood is an unavoidable event, and many car owners do not know what to do to get it reissued. Regarding this issue, lawyer Nguyen Ngoc Hung - Ket Noi Law Firm (Hanoi Bar Association) said that according to the provisions of Clause 2, Article 11, Circular 58/2020/TT-BCA, the case of a lost license plate is subject to reissuance of the license plate.
Therefore, people who lose their license plates due to storms and floods are required to re-issue their license plates and need to go to the competent authority to carry out the procedure to re-issue the license plates.
Procedures for re-issuing a license plate in case of re-issuing a license plate due to loss include:
Step 1: Vehicle owner prepares documents including:
- Vehicle registration form according to form 01;
- Vehicle owner's documents:
+ Vehicle owner is an individual: Present ID card/Citizen ID card/Household registration book.
+ Vehicle owner is an agency or organization: Citizen ID card or Identity card of the person registering the vehicle (with authorization letter attached).
Step 2: Submit the application to the vehicle registration office where the individual resides or the organization is headquartered.
According to regulations, the agency that issued the vehicle registration and license plate is responsible for reissuing the license plate due to loss. People can submit their application directly to the headquarters of the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial or Central City Police or the vehicle registration points of the Department or District Police; vehicle registration points of District Police.
Step 3: Pay the fee to reissue the lost license plate and receive an appointment paper.
According to Circular 229/2016/TT-BTC, the fee for issuing, changing or reissuing a license plate due to loss is 100,000 VND/time/vehicle.
Step 4: Come to get the license plate.
According to Decision 933/QD-BCA-C08, the police agency must immediately issue a license plate after receiving a valid application. The time to reissue a lost, blurred, or damaged license plate shall not exceed 7 working days from the date of receipt of a complete and valid application.
