Statistics from prestigious units around the world are showing that electric vehicles are increasingly widespread and becoming a priority choice for people in many countries.

Talking numbers

According to CDK Global, a software company for auto dealers, the share of car buyers planning to switch to electric vehicles in the future has increased from 18% in 2023 to 31% in 2024.

In the US, electric vehicle sales in 2024 will reach 1.3 million units, up 7.3% over the previous year. automakers such as General Motors and Hyundai are seeing significant growth. This shows that electric vehicles are gradually becoming a popular choice in the market.

Not only in the US, Europe and China also recorded strong growth in the electric vehicle sector. In Europe, the share of electric vehicles in total auto sales will surpass 25% in 2024, while China continues to maintain its position as the world's largest electric vehicle market with more than 6 million vehicles sold in the year.

One of the main reasons why electric vehicles are becoming more and more popular is that their operating costs are lower than those of gasoline-powered cars. According to the study, 60% of current consumers have a better understanding of the cost of charging, 48% know that electric vehicles only take about 30 minutes to charge and 49% have identified local charging stations. The maintenance cost of electric vehicles is also much lower because the electric transmission system has fewer moving parts and requires less maintenance than gasoline vehicles.

Strong green transformation trend in Vietnam

The trend of switching to electric vehicles is not only happening in the world but is also being strongly promoted in Vietnam. With the emergence of VinFast, a domestic electric vehicle brand, the Vietnamese automobile market is witnessing a clear change.
In 2024, VinFast has risen to become the best-selling electric car brand in Vietnam with more than 87,000 cars, surpassing imported brands such as Toyota (68,000 cars) and Hyundai (67,000 cars).

Sharing with reporters, Mr. Nguyen Duc Nam - a car store owner in Pham Van Dong Street, Hanoi - said: "A few years ago, most of my customers chose gasoline cars, but now, more than 40% of people coming to the store are interested in electric cars. The number of customers choosing electric vehicles has increased sharply thanks to reasonable prices, good quality and consumer policies".

Ms. Nguyen Thanh Thanh - an office worker in Hanoi - shared: "I have switched to using electric vehicles since last year and am really satisfied. Charging is no longer a problem because charging stations are now much more popular. More importantly, I save significant fuel costs compared to when I was still using a gasoline car".

Meanwhile, Mr. Ta Van Hoang - a driver running the service - said: "After trying it out, I found that electric vehicles were very economical and did not have to worry about high fuel prices. Moreover, customers also prefer to ride electric cars because they are gentle and environmentally friendly".

In addition to the State's policies, efforts by businesses such as VinFast, from support for ownership costs to free battery charging, parking... have helped many people access green vehicles. The charging station network is expanding rapidly across the country, helping to remove barriers in the use of electric vehicles.

Statistics and reality in Vietnam show that the electric vehicle revolution has been taking place strongly. This trend not only helps reduce environmental pollution but also brings clear economic benefits to consumers. With the rapid development of infrastructure and technology, the age of gasoline vehicles will probably soon end, giving way to a greener future for electric vehicles.
