A Porsche 718 Cayman using an internal combustion engine (ICE) has just been handed over in the Vietnamese market, in the context that the German sports car manufacturer is gradually shifting to electrified product lines.
According to information from the seller, the car has a Racing yellow exterior, a black interior and has completed transaction procedures. The sale of the 718 Cayman gasoline engine has attracted the attention of domestic car enthusiasts, because this sporty coupe line is facing major technological changes in the near future.
Porsche has announced a global electrification strategy, in which many familiar car lines will gradually switch to purely electric configurations. With the 718, the company is no longer expanding its list of gasoline engine versions, instead focusing on completing the testing phases for the fully electric generation.
In Vietnam, the increasingly limited appearance of 718 Cayman gasoline engine models has increased the value of collection and the level of interest in this car line. Notably, the car in the article was chosen by the owner with a license plate with the 718 series, coinciding with the car line name, and two numbers 99.
Historically, Porsche changed the marketing name of the Cayman to Porsche 718 from the 982 generation to evoke the company's racing legacy at Targa Florio, where Porsche won in 1959 and 1960. The name change came with a technical shift, when the 718 Cayman switched from a 6-cylinder naturally aspirated engine to a 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, aiming for a lighter, more flexible and efficient car philosophy.
The Porsche 718 line was officially launched in 2016. Standard versions use a horizontal 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter capacities, providing improved power and torque compared to the previous generation, while optimizing fuel consumption. The Cayman S version is equipped with turbocharging technology with variable geometry (VTG) turbines, capable of accelerating from 0 to 97 km/h in 3.9 seconds. In October 2017, Porsche continued to introduce the GTS version with an upgraded 2.5-liter engine, reaching a capacity of 365 horsepower.
