This is also the oldest car participating in the Gumball 3000 car journey in 2024.

The over 50-year-old Porsche Carrera RS made a strong impression at the 2024 Gumball 3000 event, as the oldest car participating.

This year’s Gumball 3000, which began on September 14 in Vietnam, features a host of modern supercars and sports cars. However, special attention is focused on the 1973 Porsche Carrera RS, a striking yellow car with an impressive history.

This Carrera RS is over 50 years old, and that makes many people curious as to whether it can keep up with the modern supercars in the group.

However, in terms of uniqueness and history, few cars can compare. The Porsche Carrera RS is considered one of the greatest classic 911s. RS is an abbreviation of "Rennsport" in German, meaning "racing". The Carrera name is associated with Porsche's victory at the Carrera Panamericana race in Mexico in the 1950s.

The Carrera RS is renowned for its aerodynamic design and outstanding performance. Equipped with a 2.7 L boxer engine, 207 horsepower, and Bosch mechanical fuel injection system, the Carrera RS can reach 255 Nm of torque at 5,100 rpm.

The lightweight chassis and improved suspension help the car handle flexibly. The RS Touring version weighs 1,075kg, while the Sport Lightweight version is around 100kg lighter thanks to the use of thin steel and lightweight glass.

The 50-year-old Porsche Carrera RS at Gumball 3000 is not only a symbol of history but also a testament to the durability and timeless design of the Porsche brand.
