The world's auto giant - Stellantis has just announced plans to invest more than 400 million USD in three factories in the US state of Michigan with the goal of strongly converting to electric vehicle (EV) and battery production.
It is understood that in preparation for various electrification options, investments in this northern US state will support Stellantis' "multi-energy strategy".
The move is part of the company's "Dare Forward 2030" plan to invest more than 50 billion euros (about $55 billion) in electrification, with the goal of having all Stellantis vehicles sold in Europe be electric by 2030 and accounting for 50% of EV and light truck sales in the US.
Stellantis said it will invest $235.5 million in its Sterling Heights plant, which will produce the brand’s first all-electric pickup truck in Michigan. The Ram 1500 REV was scheduled to go on sale later this year.
Recently, the world's auto giant has modernized its factory to be able to produce both internal combustion engine and electric vehicles on the same assembly line.
Meanwhile, the Warren truck factory is investing about $97.6 million to plan to produce the Jeep Wagoneer electric car in the near future, expected to launch in late 2025.
In August 2024, Stellantis announced it would stop producing the Ram 1500 Classic pickup truck, which has been produced at the site since 1993. This could result in the loss of nearly 2,500 jobs starting in October 2024.
