From the trend to market attraction
VinFast's " gasoline exchange for electricity" event on June 21 and 22 at Thanh Xuan Park, Hanoi attracted thousands of people to participate. VinFast's booth area became bustling from early morning, when hundreds of people brought old gasoline motorbikes to appraise and exchange for new electric motorbikes. The event not only provides opportunities for a test drive and direct experience of electric vehicle models, but also offers a series of attractive incentives on prices and payment policies.
Mr. Tran Duc Huy (42 years old, residing in Phuong Liet ward, Hanoi) was one of the first people to bring a car to change on the morning of June 21.
I have been using the Honda Future since 2012. Seeing the information that VinFast was organizing a car change, I went to try it. Unexpectedly, my vehicle is priced quite high and the procedures are quick. After just over an hour, I finished switching to the Evo200, said Mr. Huy.
According to Mr. Huy, what made him decide to switch to electric vehicles was not only because of the reasonable price, but also because of concerns about increasing fuel costs. "Previously, I spent about 100,000 VND per week on gasoline, now the electricity charge is less than 10,000 VND. No more having to worry about periodic emission inspections in the coming time" - he said.
Similarly, Ms. Le Hoai Phuong (33 years old, teacher, living in My Dinh, Hanoi) also decided to buy an electric motorbike after being introduced by friends. "At first, I thought electric vehicles were weak and would have a hard time going far. But today, I was able to test drive the Feliz NeoS model, I found it completely different. The car runs smoothly, without any kills, and the design is also beautiful. The price after the promotion is reduced by nearly 5 million VND, which is too good, and is paid in installments without interest, so I deposit immediately" - Ms. Phuong shared.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of VinFast said that on June 21 to 22, VinFast's "petrol exchange for electricity" event in Hanoi attracted a large number of people to attend. In total, nearly 1,000 electric motorbikes were sold on the spot or received deposits in two days. Of which, nearly 600 vehicles were converted from gasoline vehicles of other brands.
Previously, a similar event held in Ho Chi Minh City recorded nearly 600 electric motorbikes sold in two days, of which nearly 250 gasoline vehicles were exchanged directly at the event.
A representative of VinFast said: "After organizing a gasoline car exchange program for an electric car twice, we have found that people are very interested in the green conversion. The number of electric motorbikes successfully converted exceeded expectations. This will certainly be the premise for VinFast to continue this program in the future and in many other localities across the country".
Electric vehicles promote the recovery of the motorbike market
The attraction of electric motorbikes not only contributes to green transformation but also creates momentum to push the motorbike market to develop.
Data from Motorcycles Data shows that the Vietnamese motorbike market is on the path to a strong recovery. In the first 5 months of 2025, total market sales reached 1.32 million vehicles, up 20.2% over the same period last year.
The electric vehicle segment is a bright spot, and at the same time a growth driver of the entire market. The L1 line (under 50cc) grew to 113.1%, while the L3 line (over 50cc) increased by 49.3%. These figures reflect the clear shift of consumers to electric vehicles, especially among students and workers in urban areas.
VinFast has emerged as the leading brand in the Vietnamese electric motorbike market with an impressive growth of 488% in the first half of 2025. The company is not only leading in sales but is also a pioneer in the policy of supporting the conversion from gasoline vehicles to electric vehicles. Most recently, in the 3rd "Intensive Vietnamese spirit - For a green future" campaign, the new price is 20% lower than before, making VinFast motorbikes much more accessible than gasoline motorbikes.
The price of the vehicle has been adjusted down from 2.9 to 10 million VND depending on the model, combined with a 4% discount for all people and a cooperation program with GSM for drivers running services.
Some models such as VinFast Motio, a student electric vehicle that does not require a driver's license, currently costs only 12 million VND, much cheaper than competitors in the same segment such as Yadea, Pega or Dibao. In addition to Motio, popular car lines such as Evo Lite Neo, Evo Neo200, Feliz Neo... S and Klara S luxury cars also received great attention from the market.
According to the Statistics Office, in May 2025, domestic enterprises exported about 274,500 motorbikes, an increase of 3.7% over the same period last year. By the end of May, the total output of newly shipped motorbikes reached 1.271 million units, an increase of about 5%.
The explosion of electric motorbikes not only opens up a new direction for the two-wheeled vehicle industry, but also helps create attraction for the entire motorbike market.
With businesses like VinFast investing heavily in technology, customer experience and after-sales systems, the electric motorbike market is expected to continue to grow strongly in the second half of 2025.
In the near future, when the charging station system is increasingly expanded and the Government's preferential policies for electric vehicles are completed, electric motorbikes are not only a trend but will become the foundation of urban transport in Vietnam.
