The electric motorcycle market, especially the urban scooter segment, is entering a period of fierce competition as many manufacturers continuously introduce or develop new products. Instead of just focusing on design, car manufacturers are increasingly focusing on technology platforms to create an advantage in the electrification race.
Recently, the copyright registration dossier of an electric scooter model from Japan has attracted attention. Through the published images, the model has a sporty design and many modern details such as LED lights, flat footrest and two-story seat. However, the more noteworthy point lies in the technical solution when the car uses an electric motor placed in the middle of the frame, combined with power transmission with a curve instead of a motor placed in the rear wheel like many popular electric vehicles.
According to experts, the mid-mounted engine helps to distribute weight more reasonably, while also bringing a feeling of close to a gasoline scooter. Meanwhile, the powertrain can reduce the weight not hung on the rear wheel, contributing to improving stability and handling when operating.
Another trend that many manufacturers are also pursuing is the use of removable batteries. Images from the registration dossier show that the battery is located under the seat and can be removed for charging or replacing. This solution helps users be more flexible in the process of use, while opening up the possibility of developing a battery exchange model - a field that many manufacturers see as a direction to shorten battery charging time.
The appearance of the new model takes place in the context that many major automakers are accelerating electrification. Honda has included the CUV e: model in the electric motorcycle portfolio with the orientation of serving urban travel needs, while Yamaha previously also introduced Aerox E in the Indian market. Besides Japanese brands, many manufacturers from China such as Yadea, NIU or Segway are also continuously expanding their product portfolios, creating competitive pressure in many Asian markets.
In Vietnam, the electric motorcycle segment has also recorded rapid development in recent years with the participation of domestic businesses and international brands. Products are not only more diverse in design but also upgraded in lithium battery technology, smart connectivity and charging systems.
Analysts believe that the competition in the electric motorbike market is entering a new phase, when the decisive factor is no longer in having a new model but in the ability to meet actual usage needs. Distance traveled after each charge, charging time, battery solution, usage cost, after-sales service and charging ecosystem will be important criteria for consumers to choose products.
The continuous appearance of new car models and new technologies shows that the electricization race in the motorcycle industry is still being promoted by manufacturers. This not only enriches choices for consumers but also creates pressure to force businesses to invest more in technology if they want to maintain their advantage in the market.
