Electric motorbikes accelerate the race, the market enters the screening phase

The electric motorbike market is increasingly vibrant with competition expanding from products to ecosystems.

The Vietnamese electric motorcycle market in recent months has recorded many notable moves when businesses continuously launch new products in many segments, from popular to high-end. Not only domestic brands, many foreign brands are also promoting their presence to win market share in the context of the increasingly concerned green transportation trend.

Recently, VinFast introduced two more Kinet and Kyo models, targeting customers who love sports style and urban users. Previously, Honda brought the CUV e: model to the Vietnamese market in the form of rental, while Yadea, Dat Bike, Selex Motors,... also continuously expanded their product portfolios and distribution networks.

This development shows that competition is no longer limited to launching new car models. If a few years ago, manufacturers mainly competed by selling price and travel distance after each charge, now the focus has shifted to the user ecosystem.

Charging infrastructure, battery replacement, connectivity applications, after-sales service, long-term usage costs or software update capabilities are becoming factors that consumers are considering more.

This is also a trend that is consistent with the development of the market. Electric car buyers are now not only interested in how far the car can travel, but also want to know whether charging the battery is convenient, how much the battery replacement cost is, and whether the maintenance service is easily accessible.

However, despite the excitement of the electric vehicle segment, motorcycles using internal combustion engines are still absolutely dominant.

According to the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM), in the first 6 months of 2026, sales of 5 members reached more than 1.36 million vehicles, an increase of about 6% compared to the same period last year. This figure does not include the number of vehicles sold by electric vehicle enterprises outside VAMM, showing that the development room for electric vehicles is still very large.

Many experts believe that the speed of conversion will depend on many factors rather than the continuous launch of new products. The selling price, battery charging and exchange network, battery durability, after-sales policy as well as policies to encourage the use of low-emission vehicles will determine the ability to expand the market share of electric motorbikes in the coming years.

In the context that major cities are gradually implementing the goal of reducing emissions and encouraging green vehicles, the electric motorcycle market is forecast to continue to grow. However, the upcoming competition is likely not only a race between car models but also a race for technology, infrastructure and user experience.
