"Muscle cars" is a term used to describe low-slung, powerful sports cars, often equipped with large-capacity engines, mainly V8s, that produce powerful power and high torque. American muscle cars popular since the 1960s, including iconic models such as the Dodge Challenger, Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang, are characterized by outstanding acceleration, distinctive engine sounds, and rugged, individualistic styling.
According to Car Scoops, the Dodge Challenger muscle car line still has 3,361 brand new cars waiting for owners at dealerships across the US even though production has stopped since 2023.
Rival Chevrolet Camaro is in a similar situation with just 98 cars left in stock, including 90 2024 models and a handful of 2023 models.
Currently, the Dodge Challenger is still distributed in full variants, from the low-cost SXT RWD version with a 3.6-liter V6 engine with a capacity of 303 horsepower, to the high-end model Black Ghost RWD 2023 with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine with a capacity of 797 horsepower. The starting price of the SXT RWD model is 34,455 USD (about 864 million VND), while the Black Ghost RWD model has a suggested retail price of up to 162,836 USD (about 4 billion VND).
Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Camaro is in short supply, with the most popular variants like the Camaro 3LT having 42 cars left, the 1LT having 19 cars, and a few other high-end versions. Notably, the two 2024 Camaro ZL1 models - the most powerful symbol of the Camaro line - are still available with prices starting at $94,320 (about 2.3 billion VND).
The discontinuation of iconic muscle cars like the Challenger and Camaro shows the dramatic transformation of the auto industry.
Chevrolet officially "killed" the Camaro in December 2023, and there are rumors about the possibility of reviving the nameplate with an all-electric vehicle line.
