In the context of global geopolitics heating up day by day threatening energy security and Vietnam being one of the countries clearly affected, reducing dependence on fossil fuels is no longer an environmental story but has become a matter of survival for the socio-economy. Fuel-saving car lines are encouraged to be used, in which self-charged hybrid (HEV) models are considered practical and economical solutions.
The "thirst" for fossil fuels
High gasoline and oil prices are greatly affecting all aspects of socio-economic life, including the automobile industry when gasoline and oil vehicles still account for a large proportion in Vietnam. The Ministry of Industry and Trade also recommends that people actively practice energy saving. Periodic vehicle maintenance, turning off engines when parked for a long time helps reduce 10-15% of gasoline consumption; operating vehicles fuel-efficiently such as maintaining stable speed, avoiding sudden acceleration and deceleration, limiting unnecessary high speed driving are small actions but each citizen joining hands will create a major impact, contributing to reducing gasoline and oil consumption. On March 9, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade organized a Conference to disseminate the roadmap for blending biofuels with traditional fuels in the new era. Promoting the use of E5 and E10 biofuels not only helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional mineral gasoline, contributing to environmental protection, but also reduces dependence on fossil fuels. In addition, environmentally friendly vehicles are also encouraged to be used.
Green migration solutions, solutions to infrastructure and energy problems
Car manufacturers in Vietnam are also facing a major challenge regarding the energy problem affecting business strategies and product development. However, the big brand Toyota has solutions to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. For models using pure internal combustion engines, the company said: Toyota car lines (including both new and used cars manufactured after 1997) are compatible with E10 gasoline without affecting operating performance and vehicle safety, without incurring additional warranty, maintenance and repair costs compared to using conventional gasoline before.
Right from 2023, Toyota Vietnam has cooperated with Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company to implement the project "Research on the effectiveness of using biofuel for new generation cars in Vietnam". The results show that self-charged hybrid vehicles (HEV) using E10 gasoline are 7.8% more economical than conventional gasoline vehicles, reducing CO2 emissions by 11% in peak inner-city traffic conditions.
With gasoline consumption not exceeding 70% compared to gasoline cars with the same cylinder capacity, all HEV models of Toyota also enjoy a 30% special consumption tax incentive. This helps the selling price of cars decrease from 37-200 million VND, touching the needs and financial capacity of many customers.
In addition, the Japanese automaker also has solutions to increase trust and attract customers to choose HEV cars. From January 1st, Toyota extends the warranty to 10 years or 185,000km with simple conditions - customers only need to follow the car maintenance schedule at the genuine dealer. In the first 3 years or 100,000km, customers perform full maintenance according to the manufacturer's instructions. In the period from year 4 to year 10 or 185,000km (depending on which condition comes first), each time there is a full and proper periodic maintenance, the car's warranty period will automatically be extended for another 6 months or 5,000km. This benefit can be transferred when customers resell the car.
In addition, the Japanese automaker offers discounts of up to 34%, depending on the car model, when replacing old Hybrid batteries with new batteries. The program applies at dealerships nationwide.
With nearly 30 years of development of self-charged hybrid technology, large sales - with more than 4.4 million units, accounting for 42% of Toyota's total global sales in 2025 (Toyota is the number 1 car brand in the world in 2025), Vietnamese users can place their trust in this green mobility solution that balances infrastructure and energy factors. The proof is that Toyota's HEV car sales in 2025 increased by 57% compared to the previous year when nearly 8,400 cars were delivered to customers. Innova Cross HEV, Corolla Cross HEV and Camry HEV are in the top 5 best-selling cars in the Hybrid segment (According to VAMA). New selling price policies, warranty extensions and battery replacement price reductions are predicted to be leverage to help Toyota Hybrid set a new sales record in 2026.
