Quang Tri - After the reflection of Lao Dong Newspaper, the People's Committee of Hoan Lao commune has stopped the operation of an off-road vehicle business point carrying passengers climbing sand dunes illegally.

On August 24, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Hai - Vice Chairman of Hoan Lao Commune People's Committee (Quang Tri province) - said that the Commune People's Committee has directed the Police force to inspect and handle, requesting to stop operations at this spontaneous business point. "This is a spontaneous activity, taking advantage of the weather. The Police force has launched a campaign to handle it immediately" - Mr. Hai said.

The Vice Chairman of Hoan Lao Commune People's Committee said that previously, the locality had issued a document not allowing operations. However, after a period of time, individuals still secretly reorganized.

To avoid recurrence, local authorities continue to require establishments and individuals who do not meet the conditions to stop all operations. Inspection and rectification work will also be strengthened in the near future.

The commune will continue to strengthen rectification and inspection to ensure order and safety in the area, not to let these illegal activities recur" - Mr. Hai affirmed.

Previously, on August 22, Lao Dong Newspaper published an article "Off-road vehicles carrying passengers climbing sand dunes illegally, the risk of unsafety is clear", reflecting the service of transporting people to climb sand dunes and skateboard in a sand dune area in Hoan Lao commune.

According to records, the business point is temporarily built with a small shack next to the coastal road. Here, there is a price list for off-road vehicle services to take passengers to sand dunes. Passengers are quoted 80,000 VND/person for a trip to the top of the hill to visit, take photos and back down; if renting an additional sandboard, the price is 100,000 VND/person.

Activities are organized without permission. While passengers are not equipped with protective equipment. Notably, vehicles move on sloping sandy, bumpy terrain at quite high speeds.

During operation, many motorbikes and cars of passengers gather along the coastal road, at times vehicles stop and park right on the road, even park in the opposite direction next to business points, causing traffic unsafety.

In addition to off-road vehicle services, this point also organizes sandboard rentals. Most participants are young children. The sliding area is not securely zoned, players do not have protective gear, while the terrain is steep.
