Clearing the Gianh River flow
Regarding the situation of limestone overflowing into the Gianh River during the blasting for stone mining at Len Minh Cam mine (Tuyen Binh commune, Quang Tri province) of Dai Phuc Song Gianh Construction Co., Ltd., the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment has chaired coordination with the Department of Industry and Trade, Provincial Police and local authorities to inspect the scene, requesting businesses to temporarily suspend blasting activities to focus on clearing the flow and overcoming the consequences.
Up to now, incidents arising in the Gianh riverbank area have been coordinated by businesses to handle.
On August 15, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, leaders of Tuyen Binh Commune People's Committee said that regarding the volume of landslide rocks obstructing the flow, the enterprise has hired a specialized waterway unit to put up dangerous warning signs, and at the same time mobilized human resources and equipment to collect and handle the volume of rocks scattered on the Gianh River.
Dredging helps restore ventilation to the riverbed, clearing the flow so that localities can proactively plan flood drainage before the rainy and storm season.
Regarding the incident of burying the pumping station, the enterprise has paid all expenses for Ma Thuong village to proactively hire excavators to dredge away small rocks and alluvium accumulated in the pumping tank. The pumping station system has been completely restored and put into operation to promptly supply water for production for people.
Apply dust reduction measures
In early June 2026, Lao Dong Newspaper had a series of articles reflecting the situation of many stone mines in some communes in northern Quang Tri province operating and exploiting, causing pollution. Not only suffering from dust waves, stone mine blasting and mining caused stones to fly into people's houses, causing property damage and potential danger. After the reflection, Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to take the lead in coordinating with the Department of Industry and Trade, the Provincial Police and local authorities to organize inspection teams.
At the stone mine of Minh Cam Mineral Joint Stock Company and Dai Phuc Song Gianh Construction Co., Ltd., the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment requested the enterprise to temporarily suspend blasting and stone mining activities and is only allowed to consider resuming operations after completing pollution remediation items and being accepted for flow by departments and sectors.
Currently, in addition to handling riverbed incidents, the enterprise has invested in more machinery and applied synchronous solutions to combat environmental pollution. The company has equipped more watering trucks, increased the frequency of spraying moisture on transportation routes, and signed an investment contract for an industrial dust suppression misting system in the milling area.
The blasting process is also adjusted by directional microchips to reduce vibration and not blasting at times with strong winds towards residential areas. In addition, the enterprise has completed compensation for crop damage to affected households and fully fulfilled its obligation to pay environmental protection fees.
Regarding long-term solutions, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province said that in the near future, the Department will install 6 automatic environmental monitoring machines in some communes to report data directly to the Department of Agriculture and Environment for 24/7 monitoring.
Although the province is lacking materials for public investment in the new phase and is preparing to bid for 11 more mines, but specifically at the locations of 3 communes Tuyen Binh, Tuyen Phu and Tuyen Hoa, the Department decided not to focus on exploiting new mines but only to strictly manage the current mines, ensuring the maintenance of landscape and environmental sanitation" - Mr. Tuan said.
