A brain dead person donated organs, reviving 6 lives
Female patient N.L.P (born in 1982; Dong Da, Hanoi) had kidney failure and had to undergo regular dialysis since 2020 and male patient D.V.T (born in 1969; Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi) was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2012.
Currently, the health of these two patients is progressing well, the kidneys are functioning normally, the urine output is good. Meanwhile, the two corneal transplant cases have seen the light. Patients who received organ transplants at other medical facilities are also recovering.
Talking about the organ donation of patient N.D.Tr (32 years old - in Dong Anh, Hanoi) and his family, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hung - Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Health was moved: "The health sector sends thanks and gratitude to the brain-dead patient and his family for donating organs to save lives.
A brain-dead patient, if the family agrees to donate organs, will save many people. As in the case of organ donation at Xanh Pon Hospital, 6 patients were saved. This is a miraculous revival of new lives."
Mr. Hung believes that the path of mobilizing brain-dead and cardiac-arrested cases to donate organs is extremely humane, a very noble gesture: "Myself and the doctors of Xanh Pon Hospital went to Korea to learn about organ transplant techniques, and witnessed their process of mobilizing organ donation to organ transplant.
I heard the story of the team leader who mobilized organ donation from brain-dead donors, who knelt in front of the brain-dead patient's parents' house all night long, to receive sympathy from the patient's family, agreeing to donate organs to save lives. The perseverance of the team that mobilized brain-dead donors is admirable."
Feel the life from the transplant recipient
Mr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Ministry of Health, congratulated the hospital team for achieving a miracle, making important strides in organ retrieval and transplantation techniques, saving the lives of many patients.
“When I shook hands with the two kidney transplant patients, I felt life in them, something that I did not have more than 2 weeks ago. We are proud of the achievements we have made,” the Chief of the Ministry Office of Health said emotionally at the ceremony to send the two patients off the hospital.
According to Mr. Ha Anh Duc, currently, hospitals in Hanoi as well as nationwide have mastered organ transplant techniques. The problem is how to have more transplants in the future. This is the responsibility of the state management agency.
In the near future, the Law on Donation, Collection and Transplantation of Human Tissues and Organs and on Donation and Collection of Cadavers will be amended to soon have a legal framework, creating conditions for implementing more and more organ transplants, saving the lives of more patients.
On the night of August 22, Xanh Pon General Hospital received a patient who was rushed to the emergency room after a serious traffic accident. After three thorough and detailed examinations by leading experts, the final results confirmed that patient Tr could not survive.
Faced with such a great loss, the patient's family made a courageous and humane decision to donate their loved one's organs to bring life to other patients.
"Life arises from death" - I would like to borrow a quote from writer Nguyen Khai in the short story "Lac Season" to pay tribute to this noble gesture.
