Established in 2005 on the basis of changing its name from Can Tho General Hospital, the birth of Can Tho Central General Hospital is an expectation for the people of the West when there is a hospital under the Ministry of Health in this area for the first time.
Over the past two decades, the Hospital has constantly innovated and invested in deep expertise with the formation of: The most modern Cardiovascular Center in the Mekong Delta; In 2020, the Stroke Department was officially established and quickly achieved platinum certification from the World Stroke Association; Orthopedic Trauma Center with 3 specialized specialties...
In April 2024, the Hospital successfully performed the first kidney transplant, with professional support from Cho Ray Hospital. This is also the first organ transplant to be performed in the Mekong Delta, making the Hospital the 26th organ transplant center in the country.
To meet the increasing demand for medical examination and treatment of people in the Western region, Can Tho Central General Hospital has been implementing a project to expand the area by 3.5 hectares in the period of 2025-2030.
Accordingly, expand and specialize units, such as establishing units such as pediatric - neonatal units, pediatric heart surgery, establishing endoscopy centers; at the same time, deploy many new techniques such as replacing major arterial valves through the skin... Especially focusing on developing organ transplant techniques, in which the goal is to perform the first liver transplant by 2026.
