The patient, Ms. N. T. B (25 years old, address in Hau Giang province) was taken to Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital (Can Tho City) for emergency treatment with symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, fatigue, thirst, frequent urination, and perception disorders. The family said that in the past month, she had lost 10kg abnormally. These are typical signs of severe diabetes.
After examination and necessary tests, the doctor diagnosed the patient with type 2 diabetes with early symptoms, accompanied by complications of ketoacidosis (a dangerous condition due to severe insulin deficiency), acute kidney failure and pneumonia.

Doctors promptly treated the patient by infusing, controlling blood sugar with insulin and closely monitoring. After 2 days, the patient recovered, regained consciousness and continued stable treatment in the inpatient department. The patient has now been discharged from the hospital and is being monitored periodically according to the doctor's schedule.
Doctor CKII Thach Thi Phola - Deputy Head of the Department of Cardiology, Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital - said that according to statistics from the Ministry of Health, Vietnam has about 7 million people with diabetes, of which more than 55% have complications. Worryingly, the disease no longer appears only in the elderly but is increasingly common in young people, even under the age of 30.
The main causes are sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet with too much fast food, carbonated soft drinks, prolonged stress and lack of sleep.
The doctor recommends that to prevent diabetes, people need to maintain a healthy diet, limit sugar, fast starch, eat lots of green vegetables, fiber and nutrient-rich foods; exercise regularly, at least 30 minutes a day to maintain a reasonable weight and increase insulin sensitivity; check their health regularly; limit stress, because prolonged stress can disrupt blood sugar, easily leading to diabetes.
