In the first 6 months of the year, the situation of infectious diseases in Gia Lai province has been complicated, with many potential outbreaks. New variants and pathogens are constantly changing and appearing, making it difficult to predict the epidemic trend.
The vaccination rate of vaccines in the Expanded Immunization Program has not met expectations. This has led to the recording of some infectious cases and outbreaks despite vaccination. The monitoring system is still unstable and does not ensure continuity; information, forecasting and testing capacity are still limited.
According to statistics, in the first 6 months of the year, Gia Lai province recorded 214 cases of Covid-19, an increase of 173 cases compared to the same period in 2024. The cases appeared sporadically in many ages, mainly spread cases, and no major outbreaks have been recorded.
The locality also recorded 885 cases of dengue fever; 414 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease; 3 cases of malaria; 5 cases of new phong an; 5 cases suspected of rabies; 2,215 cases of seasonal flu. For diseases with vaccines in the expanded immunization Program, 3,840 cases of suspected measles/rubella rash fever have been monitored, including 1 death; 5 cases of whooping cough; 1 case of acute soft paralysis.
It is forecasted that in the last 6 months of the year, the risk of disease spread will still be very high, especially dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, measles, rabies and some diseases with vaccines to prevent them. At the same time, there is a high possibility of more emerging infectious diseases and diseases transmitted from animals to humans.
Notably, the risk of highly potent poultry flu such as influenza A(H5N1) still exists, especially at border gates and seaports, because this influenza virus is still detected in poultry in some countries in the region and in the world.
Faced with the above situation, Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich requested departments, branches and localities to focus on drastically implementing infectious disease prevention and control in the last 6 months of the year. The goal is to minimize the incidence and mortality rate, effectively control outbreaks, and proactively respond to epidemic emergencies.
Strengthen disease monitoring at all treatment facilities and in the community, conducting daily and weekly monitoring. When detecting a case, it is necessary to isolate, admit, and treat it promptly; at the same time, urgently investigate, verify, isolate and thoroughly handle outbreaks, not allowing them to spread or prolong.
Closely monitor the epidemic situation, carefully investigate factors related to cases, and improve international health quarantine capacity. In particular, it is necessary to strictly control the risk of epidemic invasion at Pleiku Airport, Phu Cat Airport, Quy Nhon Seaport and Le Thanh Border Gate...
