According to the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC), in the past week (from March 14 to March 21), the whole city recorded 182 cases of measles in 26 districts, 88 communes, wards and towns; 1 death.
Some areas recorded many patients such as Nam Tu Liem district (42); Hoang Mai (26); Ha Dong, Thanh Xuan (3); Hoan Kiem 11.; Tay Ho (10).
The death rate is young, born in 2021 (44 months old) in Nam Tu Liem, with a history of not being vaccinated against measles. The disease started on March 10, 2025 (ature on March); on March 17, the child showed signs of severe shortness of breath and was taken by his family to the National Children's Hospital for treatment.
The patient's condition became serious, he was actively treated ( ventilated, blood filter, ECMO), his condition did not improve, and died on March 18, 2025 with a diagnosis of non-healing shock, multiple organ failure, ARDS-storm cytokine/measles pneumonia.
Accumulated from 2025 to present, the city recorded 1,058 measles cases in 30/30 districts, towns and cities, 1 death, an increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Patients are divided by age group: 117 cases under 6 months (11.1%); 151 cases 6-8 months (14.3%); 113 cases 9 - 11 months (10.7%), 238 cases 1 - 5 years old (22.5%), 164 cases 6 - 10 years old (15.5%), 275 cases > 10 years old (26.0%).
"The number of measles cases in the week continued to increase compared to last week, mainly in people who had not been vaccinated or had not been fully vaccinated; There were recorded deaths in children who had not been vaccinated; It is forecasted to continue recording cases in the coming time" - CDC Hanoi commented.
According to the Hanoi Department of Health, next week, districts and towns will continue to review and speed up the progress of measles vaccination for children of regular vaccination age and children subject to the campaign vaccination, focusing on children aged 6 to under 9 months and children aged 1-10 who have not been vaccinated with 2 doses of measles vaccine, and organize continuous vaccination every day of the week, reaching a progress of 95% or more before March 31, 2025.
At the same time, the health sector will strengthen coordination with the education sector in monitoring, preventing and handling measles cases, hand, foot and mouth disease outbreaks... in schools; coordinate the implementation of vaccination in schools as well as review and promote parents to have their children fully vaccinated with all types of vaccines according to regulations.
When there are cases of measles in schools, organize a review of children's vaccination to vaccinate unimmunized children for timely disease prevention.
Units continue to monitor and detect patients at decentralized medical facilities and in the community, to promptly investigate and handle cases and outbreaks, preventing the epidemic from spreading.
Organize activities to monitor suspected measles rash fever, investigate epidemics, collect samples to test 100% of suspected cases, organize zoning, thoroughly handle areas with patients and outbreaks according to regulations.
At the same time, the health sector will increase information and propaganda about the epidemic situation and measures to prevent measles and hand, foot and mouth disease. Propagate people to proactively get vaccinated in full, on schedule and respond to additional vaccination campaigns implemented by the health sector.
