Patient Hoang A. Q. (born in 2023, residing in Ban Oong, Son Lap commune, Bao Lac district) was admitted to the Medical Center (TTTTYT) of Pac Nam district (Bac Kan) in critical condition.
According to information from the Pac Nam District Health Center, the child had a rash since March 7, but was not admitted to the hospital until March 10.
When admitted to the hospital, the child was in a state of serious illness with symptoms: pale skin, dry lips, deep sluggish eyes due to severe dehydration, not responding when asked. Doctors diagnosed the child with acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, high fever, severe dehydration and monitored for measles (tests have not been taken).

Despite emergency care and intensive treatment, the child did not survive and died at 9:30 p.m. the same day. The cause of death was determined to be late hospitalization, leading to severe pneumonia complications, acute respiratory failure and severe dehydration.
According to doctors, in recent days, the number of measles cases in the province has increased significantly. Many cases self-treat at home 3-5 days before hospitalization, leading to serious medical conditions with prolonged high fever, severe dehydration, diarrhea or pneumonia. This increases the risk of dangerous complications and death.
Currently, Bao Lac District Health Center is treating 59 measles patients, and on March 17 alone, it received 9 new cases. After recording the death in Ban Oong, Bao Lac District Health Center established a working group to go to the locality to investigate the epidemic, monitor the epidemic situation and support the Commune Health Station in disease prevention and control.
From February 12 to March 18, the total number of measles cases in Son Lap commune being treated at Pac Nam District Health Center was 76. Of which, 71 cases have recovered from their illness, 4 cases are continuing to be treated. In Ban Oong hamlet alone, there are 19 cases of measles that have been and are being treated.

On March 19, speaking with reporters, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung - Director of Bao Lac District Medical Center - said: "We are conducting an epidemiological investigation and monitoring people in close contact with the deceased child. At the same time, review cases that have not been vaccinated to have a timely catch-up vaccination plan.
On March 18, the Department of Health of Cao Bang province held an online meeting to monitor the measles epidemic situation. Director of the Department of Agricultural Health Tuan Phong requested health units in the province to strictly implement instructions, increase reporting and statistics quickly and accurately. In addition, localities need to coordinate closely to update the epidemic situation and implement effective measles control measures.
The Department of Health also emphasized the updating of vaccination management software, the effective use of epidemic prevention funding and improvement of preventive medicine capacity. People are advised to get their children fully vaccinated against measles to limit the risk of disease and dangerous complications.
