According to the Department of Health of Hai Duong province, the rate of children hospitalized due to influenza A from the beginning of December 2024 to now has increased 3 times compared to previous months. Children hospitalized are 10 years old and under, most of whom are under 5 years old. The reason for the sudden increase in children with influenza A is due to erratic climate changes and high humidity, creating favorable conditions for viruses transmitted through the respiratory tract to develop rapidly.
In addition, children under 5 years old often have poor immunity and vaccination rates are low. In addition, the family's child care methods are not suitable, such as poor hygiene and food safety, leading to children being susceptible to bacterial infections.
In addition to influenza A, other infectious diseases in Hai Duong province have also increased during this time. The Respiratory Department treats about 60-70 patients every day, of which more than 10% have RSV. The Gastroenterology Department is currently treating nearly 50 patients. From December 2024 to now, the department has treated 40-50 patients every day, with peak days reaching more than 60 patients, mainly children with diarrhea caused by Rota virus.
The number of children coming for examination and inpatient treatment is about 3 times higher than the same period last year. Acute diarrhea is increasing due to sudden changes in weather, large temperature differences between day and night, reducing resistance, causing the disease to spread rapidly among young children.
Specialists at Hai Duong Children's Hospital recommend that when children show signs of fever, vomiting with abdominal pain or bloating, they should be examined and tested promptly to avoid excessive vomiting that can cause electrolyte disturbances. At the same time, parents should not self-treat at home to avoid complications of enteritis.
Due to the high number of children admitted for treatment, the hospital has implemented plans to meet the needs of examination and treatment for children such as: Increasing the number of examination tables, treatment beds, medical staff, doctors working overtime. At the same time, actively examining, screening, classifying patients for outpatient treatment, monitoring at home, when there is a problem, you can call the hospital directly for timely support.
